Home Hort

Home Horticulture Evening Lecture Series

Ten evening classes (6:30-8:00 PM), one weeknight per week

Offered twice per year: spring and fall

Our popular Home Hort Evening Lecture Series has been educating the gardening public for a number of years. Due to the pandemic, we decided to "go virtual" in 2021, but we are hoping to return face-to-face starting in 2022.

Home Hort is designed for both newcomers and experienced gardeners who are looking for more in-depth knowledge about horticulture. Many people who aspire to becoming Massachusetts Master Gardeners (but whose busy lifestyles prevent them from doing so right now) have found Home Hort to be the perfect program.*

Topics are the same as those covered in greater detail in Master Gardener Training, but Home Hort does not require reading, homework, or exams.

  • Botany

  • Soil

  • Plant Nomenclature

  • Diseases and Pests

  • Plant Propagation

  • Lawn Care and Alternatives

  • Perennial Culture

  • Vegetable Culture

  • Weed Ecology

  • Woody Plants and Pruning

In addition to the ten weeknight lectures, Home Hort includes handouts, Q&A time with instructors, and – thanks to the small class size – opportunities to learn from your classmates.
